Toddler Tales (9): Words Out

Talking is another milestone that parents eagerly wait. We are far from that, but some words have started coming out of Little Dude. He started displaying an understanding of what we say some time after his first birthday, but he seemed a bit of a reluctant speaker. Even until recently, he's been happy gesturing to get his point across. However, Little Dude is now starting to say a few things too! After 'mama' and 'abba', he's saying words like 'car', 'beans' and 'book'. It's fascinating to see how he tries to mimic our sounds as he tries to say a word. at least as he hears it. I can imagine how tough this whole process must be for him - to say something only by looking and hearing. But I believe this is an age when kids are unusually sharp and he's been picking it up fairly well. Did I also mention that we are bilingual? This makes the whole process more challenging, and interesting. For instance, he understands our Hindi better but he tries to speak the English words! I am really excited to see the whole thing and doing the best I can to help him along.

(Toddler Tales are snippets of what I'm learning every day from my little one.)

I remember all I wanted when my son was a baby was for him to talk. The moment he started talking it didn't end he talks non stop everywhere we go and to each and every person we meet. He is far more social than me but always find myself having to talk to people I would never have talked because of him and he is only 5. Enjoy!

Hi Danielle, thanks for stopping by! I'm not much of a talker myself so I'll probably only start socializing more once he's older!

We do take talking for granted, and I think it is fantastic that he has started saying words. Not to mention learning two languages! We still await our speech hopefully it will arrive at some point.

Thanks for linking up with Small Steps Amazing Achievements :0)
