Toddler Tales (18): Sweet Love

Little Dude is very aware of his personal space. Even if a stranger pats him on the head, he protests! I don't know if this has anything to do with gender but he's never been forthcoming with hugs and kisses, even though we shower him with physical affection all the time. It was a surprise then, when he gave me a kiss a few days ago. In fact, it wasn't just a surprise - it was a heart-melting moment! Lately, he's had a routine of giving a good night kiss to his dad, and once, when I asked for it, he obliged willingly. I am so happy that he now understands how to show affection, because I've been secretly waiting for it for quite some time! He's even started squirming from my hold sometimes, and that's a sign of his growing independence. But often, he turns into a clinging baby once again! We are close to our Countdown to Two finale and I'm looking forward to all the surprises the year ahead has in store.

This post has been linked to the Magic Moments and the Small Steps, Amazing Achievements blog hops.

(Toddler Tales are snippets of what I'm learning every day from my little one.)

I think they go in stages with affection. Monkey is a big cuddler and kisser at the moment - I'm enjoying it while it lasts!

Aw, that's lovely! Don't worry, the love and the affection grows and grows from what I've learnt from a 3.5 year old. #MagicMoments

Ahhh its lovely when they're feeling generous with their hugs and kisses. I always ask z for "one thousand kisses!" He will then give me about 4 :)

I think they're all difference, some of mine just aren't as cuddly as others - how special a 'first kiss', wonderful moment! xx

It really is a wonderful feeling, isn't it? I'm taking it all in at the moment!

That's good to hear! I was worried it would disappear with time!

I am looking forward to the independence! Thanks for stopping by.

I just ask for ten to start with, since he can count them!

Thanks, Emily, it really is a memorable moment!

Aw...and yay for you! I do think some kids are more affectionate than others. My son ALWAYS has to be touching us, which sounds nice, but can also drive me crazy. He has the opposite problem in that he doesn't recognize others need personal space. Enjoy this affectionate time, and I hope it continues!

I hope so too, thank you!

My wee man has only just started the sharing the love at two and a half. Before I would literally have to ask for it. I got hugs and cuddles when he was ill or upset or for reassurance but now I get them just because. It really does make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Definitely magical!

It is lovely when they start showing you affection isn't it. My son gives me some lovely cuddles these days and my daughter gives big sloppy kisses!

Isn't it funny how we could hug and kiss them all day long, and they can pick and choose. I don't know why that is, but it makes those moments when they choose all the more special! BTW, Tarana, I host a link-up on Sundays called The Sunday Parenting Party. This post (any of yours, really) would be perfect. Come check it out. We'd love to have you link-up.

What a lovely achievement, and I think something that us mum's wait for. I hope his little kisses become a regular thing in your house.
