Toddler Tales (21): Boyish Behaviour

Little Dude has been slowly transforming into a 'boy' since he turned two! What I mean is that his antics are becoming more like what you would associate with older kids. The roughhousing and wild running around has definitely been keeping me busy. At first, I was worried about his acrobatic stunts, but now, he's a daredevil altogether! The good thing is that he is becoming more confident of himself and exploring the world around him. He keenly observes kids at the playground and wants to imitate them, even when it's a little difficult for his age. For instance, he wanted to go on the 'big slide' and I put my fears aside and let him, just to build his confidence. He did take a tumble once, and I explained to him that he needed to be a little older to attempt the bigger slides. I think he got it, but that hasn't stopped him from climbing monkey ropes and bars! Apart from that, he's doing well on the linguistic front - he is learning to use phrases. He can say 'come here', 'keep this down' and so on. I always encourage him to verbalize his feelings when he gets frustrated. I think it's time that I stopped calling him my 'baby', though - the boy in him wouldn't like that!

They grow so fast don't they (although I still call my 5 year old my baby!). They always want to be doing what the older children are don't they!

Yes, and then they get frustrated when they can't catch up!

It's great that he's building his physical confidence. That's something that we have to work quite hard on with my son as he's a bit nervous and cautious.

Mine can be quite clingy too. He's just gradually trying to explore a little more now.
