Busy Hands: Easy Homemade Paint Recipe

Easy Homemade Paint Recipe
When it comes to toddlers and preschoolers, it's best to play it safe when it comes to paint, unless you are going to supervise every move. And that's not always possible!

I prefer home made paint because it's easy to make, easy to clean up, and leaves me completely satisfied about the ingredients. You can find many paints that are non-toxic, but that doesn't mean that they don't use chemicals. Besides, I like the idea of having made my own paint!

Ingredients:

- 2 to 2 1/2 cups water
- 3 tablespoons corn starch
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- Food colouring

How to make homemade paint:

1) Combine the cornflour in the water until dissolved.

2) Put on low heat on a stove top and stir continuously. Take it off immediately as it starts to thicken.

3) Add the flour gradually and mix well.

4) Put into separate containers and add food colouring of choice (a few drops will do).

This paint is perfect for finger painting, but you can change the consistency to suit the type of art you are doing. Make it thinner to use with a brush. Add glitter to make it sparkly, and so on!

You can find many variations of this recipe, but I'm sharing what I use because it's easy and quick to make, and works well. You can store this paint in a sealed container for a week in cool conditions, but do not refrigerate it.

Awesome idea. I hadn't even thought of making my own paint but it would definitely make me less uneasy when Arthur starts eating it...

That's exactly why I love it, and it's got a good texture too.
