Notice anything different?!

New design for Sand In My ToesSo, what do you think? I've been thinking about doing a redesign for a while, but I finally took the plunge!

Welcome to the new look of Sand In My Toes! This design has actually been customised from a premium theme called Geek Press that I purchased. When I saw the demo for this theme, I knew it was the one for me.

These are some of the best features of this design:

  • The home page displays many more posts, neatly categorised by label.
  • I can feature the posts I want to highlight in the top slider.
  • There is a dual commenting system - I have upgraded to Disqus in which you don't need to log in to comment. As an alternative, you can comment through Facebook. (Update: I have temporarily disabled Facebook comments because they appear as default instead of Disqus, which is more user-friendly. I have spoken to the developer and we should have a fix in the next update.)
  • This design will work perfectly on all devices, whatever the screen size.
Although it may seem like a lot of work, it was very easy to customise this design, which excellent support by its author, who I constantly pestered with questions! It took me about a week to get this done, which would not have been possible if I had gotten a custom theme designed.

I'm still with Blogger, and you may wonder why I haven't gone self-hosted on Wordpress yet. Well, I still have some targets to reach in my mind before I do that. In any case, I just don't have the time to learn about a new blogging platform, and I know Blogger like the back of my hand! Even when I do make the move, this theme is available on Wordpress as well, so there won't be any design changes again.

A few things may still be wobbly around here, so do let me know if you face any problems! Your feedback will be appreciated.

It's perfect Tarana. Well laid out, easy to read and nice I can read some older posts! Well done :-) And don't worry about changing the platform it does not make any difference. Maybe when you get more time to do it!

Thanks, Amelia! I knew this design would suit my content best, and it made to go for it :)

This theme does look good. I didn't know you could do all this on Blogger! I'm in the midst of upgrading my blog too, but I have taken the plunge to move to my Blogger blog to Wordpress, and it is importing right now in fact! It was a decision that I'd been putting off for ages, but since I already have one Wordpress blog, I was able to find a deal that cost less for 2 blogs than I was paying for one.

The cost is definitely one of the things keeping me back. In many ways, Wordpress is more suitable for bloggers who want complete control on their design and content. I'm glad you made the move, because that's my ultimate goal too!

Nice theme. The colour suits your blog name really well, and it's definitely easy to navigate.

I like this design. I think this is my 1st time on your blog, so I'm not sure how it compares to the old one, but I love having the excerpts on the front so that we can see more of your site. I'll add you to my Bloglovin

I love the new look and features! I use Disqus too, and I'm a huge fan. I hate it when I read a fantastic blog post and want to leave a comment, but a blog has a weird commenting system. Disqus is so easy. I also really love your featured and sidebar posts with pictures! Cheers to your fresh, new design!

Thank you, Kate! I don't know why I didn't move to Disqus earlier - it'so awesome :)

Looks great, Tarana! I'm a huge Word Press fan and hope you'll "come on over" when you have time. Sorry we have been away. Life has changed in priorities :) So, totally understandable on time! We hope all is well with you :)

Good to see you Mike! I hope to see you more often then :)

That's what they always say. And by "they" I mean "me". I've given up on sticking to a design. ;-) but yeah I can't believe this is blogger. It looks very nice. When I was on blogger three or so years ago I had a very basic template. When I see someone that has that one I had back then, I say, "Poor thing they must be new here."

Thanks, Kenya! I think new bloggers should really focus on building their content first, so it's okay in the beginning. But yes, design is so important if you're a serious blogger.

Tell me what you think about this post!
