Ten Things To Do In Dubai With Kids

The city of Dubai is a wonderful place to visit with kids. If your child has a fantasy, chances are, they can be fulfilled in this city more than anywhere else in the world. Having grown up in Dubai, and now raising my son here, I can safely say that there's still a lot that we haven't experienced.

Not just Dubai - the whole of this country, United Arab Emirates (UAE), has lots to offer for families and is one of the most family-friendly places to holiday in. Baby changing and breastfeeding rooms are easy to find, and generally, the culture here, and service in most establishments is friendly towards children. Wherever you go, your children will never be bored. I hope this list gets you started, although you can do much more!

You will find contact information and useful links at the bottom of this post. Abu Dhabi is the capital of UAE, and about two hours from Dubai. Al Ain is about the same distance. Sharjah is the neighbouring emirate of Dubai, just next door.

If you are visiting Dubai, here are ten things your kids will love doing in and around the city:

1. Explore sea life

Some of the best aquariums in the region can be found in the UAE. The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo has some amazing sea creatures. The Lost Chambers at Atlantis The Palm has an aquarium in the most surreal surroundings. It's like Atlantis itself has risen from deep under. Another place to explore sea life is at the Sharjah Aquarium. Even better, you can swim with dolphins at the Dolphin Bay at Atlantis and the Dubai Dolphinarium, which also hosts daily shows with dolphins and seals.

2. Experience life in the desert

Curious-minded kids love new experiences, so they will enjoy a day in the desert dune bashing, riding on camels, or learning about how people live there. You can spend a day at a desert resort such as Al Maha Desert Resort or Bab Al Shams. You can also book a Desert Safari through tour operators, but I would only suggest it for older kids as it involves a lot of driving in the dunes. You can also visit the Heritage Village in Dubai or the one in Abu Dhabi. The Dubai Museum is a good place to understand desert culture. The Maritime Museum at Sharjah is also an interesting place.

3. Splash in water parks

I think UAE has some of the best water parks in the world! And there are so many to choose from - Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi, Aquaventure and Wild Wadi in Dubai, Iceland Water Park and Dreamland Aqua Park in cities near Dubai.

4. Have fun at the beach

Beautiful beaches aren't hard to find in Dubai, having such a large coastline. You're never far from a beach! In Dubai, check out the beaches at Jumeirah and Mamzar. They may be a little crowded, but they are always fun.

5. Drive in Ferraris

Your kids won't be too young to drive a Ferrari here! Visit the one-of-a-kind Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. It's also the largest indoor theme park in the world, also home to the fastest roller coaster. If your kids like adventure, this is the place to find it.

6. The ultimate pretend play

The special thing about KidZania in The Dubai Mall is that it seems like you have been transported to another world. One where kids call the shots! In this awesome play city, your children can fulfill their dreams of becoming doctors, chefs, firefighters, or whatever they fancy.

7. Ski indoors

You don't have to travel elsewhere if you miss the snow. At Ski Dubai, you can ski down as slope in real snow! There's lots of fun to be had here for kids - they can go on rides, or build a snowman.

8. Get close to animals

If animals are what interest your kids, head to the Al Ain Zoo or the Emirates Park and Zoo in Abu Dhabi. You can also visit the Sharjah Desert Park, or visit Tamimi Stables there to pet little animals. Similar petting zoos are Posh Paws and Exo Terra in Dubai.

9. Play, play, play

Too hot outdoors? Check out Sega Republic, an indoor zone full of games and thrills. For younger kids, there are numerous play areas such as Favourite Things in Marina Mall, Little Explorers in Mirdiff City Center, or Sparky's in Al Ghurair Center. There are many more play spaces around the city.

10. See the tallest building

What child wouldn't be excited about entering the world's tallest building? Visit the 125th floor of Burj Khalifa for an experience that you won't forget, and some awesome views!
