Family Eats: Sights and taste of the sea at Boardwalk

The Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club is an iconic building on Dubai's landscape, and one you can't miss if you cross Deira or visit the Creekside Park. One of its popular restaurants, Boardwalk, opened 21 years ago, so it's a shame we never visited it before!

We were lucky enough to get a coveted table just overlooking the Dubai Creek, and the view was breathtaking! You can see Dubai's new skyline, and luxury yachts swaying gently in the water, while seagulls fly past you. They never disturb your dining experience, though, which is why you shouldn't try to feed them!

We started our meal, as always, by ordering for Little Dude first. He wanted a Strawberry Milk Shake to begin with.

Their Kids Menu has far more options than you will find in most restaurants. Some of the main dishes on the menu include Fish and Chips, Sausage and Mash, and Spaghetti Bolognaise. You can get a Kids Meal Deal for AED 50, which includes a main dish, a soft drink or juice, and one scoop of ice cream. You can also have a main course item prepared for your child on request (for AED 48).

For his meal, we ordered the Beef Burger, which was served with fries and ketchup. The burger was made with a nicely grilled beef patty topped with cheddar, lettuce and tomato. But it did prove to be a bit of a mouthful for Little Dude! We sorted this out by having like an open sandwich.

He was very keen on visiting their new Kids Zone, which we visited soon after (more on that below).

For our meal, we started with antipasti, which was Panzanella, a moist Tuscan bread salad with tomatoes, onion, cucumber, and basil. We also had the Greek Salad, drizzled with oregano and lemon dressing. Both dishes had a lovely and refreshing taste.

The cuisine served at Boardwalk is Mediterranean inspired, and you will find many of your Italian favourites here.

The restaurant also serves a variety of seafood, and the surroundings provide just the right ambiance to taste some!

For starters, we had the Sea Bass Carpaccio - the fish was thinly sliced, and topped with tomatoes, vinaigrette, fennel, and rocket leaves. We also had the Beef Carpaccio which was topped with pesto, vinaigrette, rocket leaves, pine nuts, and Parmesan cheese. The flavours in both this dishes were plentiful but not overwhelming, and a great start to our meal.

For the main course, we had the Boardwalk Seafood Platter. I found that this dish is perfect for any seafood lover. It's also the right serving size for one person. The platter had grilled and fried hammour, salmon, batter fried calamari rings and prawns, and shellfish. The seafood is served with rice and grilled vegetables. Pesto, tomato vinaigrette, and tartar sauce were served on the side. The dish was not doused in flavours, and that's the best thing about it. You can really savour the taste of the range of seafood it offers. If you are having just one main dish at Boardwalk, this is what you must eat!

We also had the Herb Crusted Lamb Rack, served with jus, asparagus, and vegetable mascarpone cannelloni. The lamb was cooked perfectly, and the vegetables and cannelloni in the natural meat sauce complemented it well.

While we had our main course, Little Dude had acquainted himself with the Kids Zone, which offers a safe place for children to play supervised, while the parents dine. It has something for every interest that a child may have, including an arts and crafts table, developmental toys, books, and pretend play. They also have a corner just for babies.

Little Dude received a lot of attention from Marian and her colleagues at Kids Zone, since he was the only child there at the time! He liked the place well enough to stay there on his own while we ate. The staff is very friendly, and I guess that's what made me and Little Dude comfortable.

We finally got Little Dude out with the lure of ice cream! For dessert, we ordered a Banana Split, which was delicious - bananas topped with vanilla pod ice cream, fresh strawberry ice cream, and dark chocolate ice cream.

The other dessert we tried was heavenly  too - the Coffee Liegeois was coffee ice cream topped with chantilly cream, and warm espresso on the side.

Having a meal at Boardwalk is an experience you will not forget easily, and the lure of the sea breeze and the fresh seafood will make you want to go back again. And with a child-friendly environment and the new Kids Zone, Boardwalk presents itself as a wonderful restaurant for a family meal.

A meal for two, and a child costs about AED 360 (including two starters, two main dishes, a kids' meal, and dessert).

Boardwalk is also serving a Festive Set Menu up to December 30. You can also celebrate New Year's Eve with them at their Silver Ball, starting at AED 550. Reservations can be made by calling them on 04-2956000, or emailing them on creek[email protected]

You can leave children up to 8 years of age at the Kids Zone, by registering them at the reception. If you spend AED 250 at the restaurant, your child can stay for up to 3 hours at Kids Zone for AED 45. Else, they charge AED 45 for one hour, and AED 20 for every additional hour. It is closed on Sundays.

Check out their website for more details.

We were invited to dine at Boardwalk for the purpose of review, but all views and opinions are my own.
