Family Eats: Family Saturdays fun at Original Wings and Rings

Think American diners and you would instantly picture cheeseburgers, pickles, and fries - but no diner experience is complete without indulging in classic onion rings and chicken wings. Original Wings and Rings in DIFC, Dubai, offers the complete diner atmosphere, and promises some of the best rings and wings around these parts.

We tried them out on one of their Family Saturdays, during which they make the place more family-friendly and set up something special for the kids. The restaurant is quite big and bright, and as we entered, Little Dude went straight to the kids area!

To start off, we had to try the Hand Breaded Onion Rings with ranch dip (AED 34). They didn't disappoint. The rings were huge, not too oily, and just the right amount of crispy. I would have loved to know what that herb batter was made of, but I guess that's a secret!

For Little Dude, I ordered from the kids menu. They were out of mac and cheese which he loves, so we settled for a grilled Chicken Burger with fries and cranberry juice. You can also choose from a beef burger, tenders, wings, or kids pizza with fries and juice for just AED 40.

The burger was juicy and seasoned right, although Little Dude couldn't finish it all!

We also ordered the Chicken Quesadilla with sour cream (AED 49) which was another great starter, and crisp as it should be.

We were really keen on the wings by now, and they were kind enough to serve us a sampler of all of their 10 sauces.

Pictured below, on the top row from the left: Buffalo, Garlic Parmesan, Sweet & Sour, Roasted Garlic, Sweet Barbecue. Bottom row: Sweet Chili, Crazy, Teriyaki, Lemon Pepper, Sweet Curry. On the far right in a vertical row are the three levels of heat in the sauce - mild, medium hot, and X-hot.

In fact, there's a third level of 'atomic' heat, called the One Million Sauce and to try it you have to sign a disclaimer! Our server Christine described it as "fire" but my husband was brave enough to try it. He said that he could feel it's after-effects for quite a while!

We chose the Traditional Wings in Crazy sauce with bleu cheese dip (ten for AED 65), with the curly fries and my, they were hard to keep our hands off! And that's the best way to eat them - as a sign at the restaurant says, Table manners are strongly discouraged

I loved how crisp, tender, and brimming with flavour the wings were. The Crazy sauce was a great combination of spicy, sweet, and tangy - it is, in fact, their bestseller sauce. The fries and dip made a great accompaniment, but I could have just had the wings alone happily!

Little Dude had amused himself with the balloons and face painting, also having a go at the foos ball table, but I wish there was something more to keep him busy. So, we ordered him some dessert - a Triple Choc Cheesecake (AED 30) which was sinfully good!

I know we'll be returning to Original Wings and Rings soon, especially when we're in the mood to really indulge the tastebuds. Yes, we'll be back for more!

Original Wings and Rings is located at Level C, Liberty House, DIFC, Dubai. Making a reservation is recommended, especially on weekends. Call them on 04-3596900 to book a table (12 PM to 2 AM). Follow them on Facebook for updates or visit the website.

We were invited to dine at the restaurant for the purpose of review, but all views and opinions are my own.
