Family Eats: Power Bites for kids at Mövenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel Dubai

Every parent knows the struggle of getting kids to eat! Even if you have a child who eats veggies, they most certainly would have been through a fussy eating phase. I wouldn't describe my toddler as a fussy eater, but there are certain foods he likes more than others. And presentation is everything! I try to make his regular food in different forms, and then he is more inclined to try them.

When I heard about the new Power Bites menu for kids at the Mövenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel Dubai, I was definitely interested! The food looked so good, and inviting. We got to try this special menu at their Friday Family Brunch in Al Bahou restaurant last week.

In the beautiful lobby of the hotel, as we entered the restaurant, many street-style stalls greeted us. On offer were a range of cuisines from Arabic to Indian, to Oriental.

One of the things I liked was the variety of food in each cuisine, not just a few customary dishes. The Lebanese mezze and barbecue was plentiful. The Oriental cuisine had a range of sauces and dishes, including freshly steamed dim sums. The fresh seafood looked very inviting as well! There is a sushi station too.

As we settled down with some fresh juice, I was directed to the Kids Buffet, which is in a separate room. This is where we finally got to see the Power Bites spread, and it was as interesting as I had expected. I loved the presentation of the food, and it really made me want to be a child again!

Apart from the fresh fruits, sandwiches, and sushi for appetizers, the main dishes included green fettucini and meatballs, sweet potato fries, hand cut french fries, and round chicken kebabs.

There was a variety of sweets too including cake pops, cookies, marshmallows and candy. I only wish there was a separate candy and sweets station, so kids aren't tempted to go straight for them.

A good thing is that the Power Bites menu changes every week, so it's worth returning to!

We said hello to the Chef who was helping the kids serve themselves, and settled Little Down down to eat in the same room. He started off with some fries, chicken kebab and his favourite - mini doughnuts! He later tried the green pasta and liked it too.

A movie was playing on the big screen and most of the kids seemed happy. It didn't look like they wanted to leave any time soon!

I let him stay there, as there was a staff member to supervise the kids. We were soon paid a visit by the official bee mascot for Power Bites.

Onwards to our meal, I loved the dim sums, the Lebanese lamb rice, and the fresh salads. My husband loved the grilled chicken shawarma.

There is a separate Pasta and Pizza parlour where fresh oven-baked pizzas are served. The cheeses and cold cuts are in a separate Pork and Cheese room.

The sweet treats room is like wonderland for the adults! There were delectable desserts to suit every taste - warm chocolate pudding, fresh fruits, cheesecakes, creme brulee and parfait to name a few.

When Little Dude was done with his meal, he headed over to the Camel Kids Club, where he played with some toys and did some Easter colouring! This area is supervised as well, but parents should pay heed that children are free to come and go here, so very young children should have an accompanying older sibling or adult.

I have to say a word about the Indian food too - it definitely made me think of home! The freshly made pooris were soft and fluffy, and the masala chickpeas to have with them were just right.

We also had a lovely ambiance thanks to the live music.

Little Dude had a go at the bouncy castle and slides before we realized how quickly the time had passed. This just goes on to show that we had a wonderful afternoon with good food and lots of fun!
