Family Eats: An al fresco Friday brunch at Amwaj Rotana

We in Dubai are grateful for the good weather we are still experiencing in late April, even as the summer is setting in. Thankfully, a cool breeze throughout the day makes the sun bearable. I'm glad that it was one such pleasant afternoon when we seated ourselves on the lovely terrace of Amwaj Rotana at Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai. We were there for the #LetsDoBrunch which happens at the hotel every Friday on their terrace.

After ordering some fresh juices, we were directed to the grills where they served some delicious lamb chops, tiger prawns, salmon, and chicken drumsticks. There was soup and pasta too, and I quite liked the lasagna.

The terrace is actually on their second level and the brunch spread is flanked by their Italian restaurant Rosso and Japanese restaurant Benihana. I must say I wasn't expecting such a large spread, and was informed by the manager that theirs is one of the largest brunches in Dubai in terms of size and variety of food served. Guests are free to walk into either restaurant, and choose from the buffets served there. This is apart from the outdoor buffet which includes favourites such as roast, quesadillas, Shawarma, and chicken biryani.

After sampling some of the grill, we went off to explore the kids play area. This is set up outside Benihana with astro turf carpeting. The place looked quite inviting for the children and is large enough to play around in. In fact, a few tables are also set up there, known as the family zone. So, if you're eating with kids, you could just book one of these tables and watch them play too.

There's also a television screen set up with kids movies playing, and activities like face painting and balloon bending keep the kids busy.

As for the Kids Buffet (inside Benihana), we were offered spaghetti in tomato sauce, hand cut fries, teriyaki chicken, and fish fingers. Little Dude had a little bit of everything since he was hungry from exploring the place all this while! He did like choosing from the tempting desserts afterwards. I would have liked to see more variety in the kids buffet, such as sandwiches or steamed veggies, and a few healthy desserts such as fruit.

I moved on to my meal with some Asian salads from the Benihana buffet.

As you can see from my full plate below, there were many fresh and inviting options, such as sushi, steamed papaya salad, bean sprouts salad, and spicy pineapple salad.

I liked the crisp beef quesadillas from the main buffet, and the chicken biryani was flavourful too. I also tried some of the stir fry from the live cooking station in Benihana. The chef whipped up a lovely meal with chicken and the fresh veggies I chose.

On to the dessert room in Rosso - there was a lot to choose from. I liked the caramel cheesecake and the dark chocolate mousse with raspberry jelly.

#LetsDoBrunch was a lovely dining experience for us as a family, and the good thing is that Little Dude liked it too. I guess there's something about the al fresco setting that makes it a family-friendly brunch worth trying and returning to. We certainly will!
