Family Eats: Spanish Family Lunch at El Sur, Dubai

If you've tried Spanish cuisine, you may have heard about their famous tapas, or a set of appetizers which more than satiate your hunger - whether you're waiting for your dinner or simply hungry between meals. El Sur restaurant at The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort has more or less mastered the art of serving these Spanish treats.

We were there last weekend to try their newly introduced Spanish Family Lunch. There is a set menu for both adults and kids, and something to keep the kids busy as well.

Soon after being seated, we were served bread and fresh olives with potato crisps and sauces. Our starters arrived next and it was a lovely spread! There was smoked beef with tomato sauce, along with croquettes stuffed with beef, and shrimp and served with fried green peppers. The croquettes were crispy and delicious, and made the perfect appetizer. The Garlic and Chilli Prawns were cooked just right, and beautifully flavoured. The accompanying cold salad with peppers and onions was refreshing. We washed it down with Virgin Sangria.

For Little Dude, we chose the kids' menu, and his starters included a Potato Omelette and Seafood Croquettes.

He tasted both, but was keen on having his main course, which was the Breaded Chicken with White Sauce Pasta. Unfortunately, his pasta took quite a while to arrive, and he was very hungry by the time it did.

He was later pacified at the kids corner inside the restaurant. They had set up chef hats and aprons, which kids can wear and decorate cookies with coloured icing. Currently, there is no supervisory staff for kids, but older children can entertain themselves since they will be close enough for their parents to see.

Our main course was the Seafood and Chicken Paella which was quite hearty. The seafood in it included mussels, shrimps, and prawns, and the chicken gave it a nice flavour too.

Our desserts were Dark chocolate cake with peanut butter ice cream, which was sinfully delicious, and White chocolate mouse with berries.

You may expect some variations from the printed menu, but the food will satisfy you, nevertheless. Stop by with your family at El Sur this weekend and try it for yourself!

El Sur’s Spanish Family Lunch takes place every Saturday from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. Prices begin from AED 195 for soft beverages package and AED 295 for free-flowing sangria, beer and wine. Set menu for kids between 6  to 12 years is priced at AED 95 each. Visit their website for details and follow them on Facebook for updates.

We were invited to El Sur for the purpose of review, but all views and opinions are my own.
