Family Eats: Sweet indulgence at the Chocoholic Brunch

Dubai is well-known for the unique and exotic experience it offers, so it's only fitting that it should host a brunch dedicated to chocoholics. Whether we profess it or not, most of us are chocolate lovers! I do try to keep my sweet tooth and bay, by when we were offered to visit the famed Chocoholic Brunch at Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates Hotel, I knew I would have trouble keeping it under control!

The entrance to Sanabel Restaurant where the Chocoholic Brunch is held every Friday is tastefully decorated to indicate the experience awaiting you inside.

We chose a terrace table, because, who would want to miss a view like this? It was a breezy afternoon, and so was perfect for eating outdoors.

There was a variety of cuisine on offer - including a sushi station, Indian food, fresh seafood, Arabic dishes, and a grilled meat station. They also had fresh fruits on offer, and notably, fresh tender coconut juice cut up and served before you. I was impressed by the range of Mediterranean salads on offer, since they make perfect appetizers.

There is no kids buffet, but the restaurant offers kids' dishes on request. You can order for pasta, nuggets, burgers, pizzas, or fries. The chef was kind enough to make a platter for Little Dude, who so loved the presentation, that he sat still to eat!

On my plate, I had a combination of Thai food - chicken satay in peanut sauce, green pepper beef curry, and rice - with some Mediterranean salads - couscous, mozzarella and tomato, and chickpea with cabbage. I also sampled the tandoori chicken drumstick with chutney and it was beautifully seasoned and grilled.

After our meals, we of course, headed to Chocolate Avenue. It was wonderful to see some healthy desserts right at the outset - fruits such as bananas, strawberries, apples, and pineapple dipped in chocolate. Little Dude loves fruits, so I set him up with some of these and then went on to explore the rest.

The chocolate creations on display were truly a work of art! The team, headed by Chef Waleed and Chef Rupali, put so much care into creating each dessert, and it shows. They have a different theme every week, and this time, it was definitely women and fashion centered.

Amongst the amazing pieces of chocolate art were chocolate shoes, and chocolate purses.

There were a room full of chocolate desserts to choose from, and also included a hot chocolate station and a crepe station.

And if that wasn't enough, there is a special Taste of Chocolate room which has some of the most exotic chocolates and desserts you can find around here!

Even if you aren't into chocolate, there is a separate section of regular desserts to choose from - including tarts, mouse, cheesecake and ice cream.

To top up this delightful journey into chocolate, we had their signature beverage - the chocolate smoke lavender tea. The tea had a tease of chocolate smoke with English tea, and was worth having just for the sensory experience.

From a family-friendly point of view, this isn't a bouncy castle-face painting type of family brunch, but the staff is very accommodating to children and Little Dude was never bored. For older kids, they also have a section with game consoles set up in a separate area where they can be served popcorn and ice cream.

Here are some interesting facts about the Chocoholic Brunch:

  • 100 kilos of chocolate is used to produce the buffet
  • 58 different types of desserts are served
  • 22 different types of chocolates from around the world are used
  • 3 chocolate companies have teamed up with Sheraton to create this brunch
  • The rarest chocolate on offer is the 67% Grand Cruz Chocolate, the first coverture made with wild cocoa from the Amazon Region of Bolivia
