Family Eats: Taste The World Brunch at Melia Dubai

It was our first time visiting Melia Dubai when we recently tried their Friday brunch at Azalya restaurant. The five-star hotel, located in Bur Dubai, seems unpretentious on the outside. But step in, and you see the grandeur. Decorated in black granite and shades of gold, this Spanish hotel presents an elegant, luxurious style.

The brunch, called Taste The World, was busy when we entered. The cuisine served at this brunch mainly includes Indian, Mexican, and Chinese. There were some fresh salads and cheese to begin our meal with, and a cheese platter.

When they say international, the chefs at Azalya do serve a variety of dishes to suit every taste. I sampled the Ravioli with White Sauce, the Grilled Chicken stuffed with Jalapeno Sauce, the Chicken Paella, and the Mutton Keema.

I must make a special mention of the Indian dishes served at the brunch. There were quite a few on the buffet, and included lesser known items such as Saag (greens in a spicy curry base).

We were especially happy to see a fresh Chaat corner. Chaat is a class of street food mainly found in Northern India. It's made in many varieties, mixing a sweet, spicy, and tangy taste. Coming from the region, I can tell you that these were as authentic as they can get.

There were other main course items, as well, such as the Beef Tenderloin with Rosemary, and the Grilled Fish with Lemon Sauce.

There was no food section for kids, but we found a few dishes that Little Dude liked. Later, the chef also served him some fries. The restaurant does accommodate special requests for kids, so you just need to ask.

I spoke to Chef Praveen Singh of the restaurant, and he talked about how they try to serve new items every week. They also try to get guests involved in activities, such as the Paella Making they had recently.

There is a live cooking station where they were serving Aloo Parathas and Chhole Bhature, Indian home cooking favourites. They also had a fresh seafood station, and one for Asian-style noodles.

Did I mention the dim sums? There was a good variety of those too, and enough to have your fill.

Chef Praveen was kind enough to present us with fruits and a special dessert platter.

As for the desserts corner, there were all the regulars such as Umm Ali, fruit tarts, and cheesecake. There was also a white chocolate foundation that the kids seemed to be liking.

At only AED 149 per person with soft drink and AED 249 with house beverages, the Taste The World brunch is a good option for when you are tired of home food, and want to give your palate a tasty experience! It's also a very social affair where you can take friends and family, since it is also easy on the pocket.

Call Azalya on 04-3868111 to make a reservation. Visit the Melia Dubai wensite for more details, or get the latest udates on their Facebook page.

We were invited to review the above brunch, but all views and opinions are sincerely my own.
