A weekend at Millennium Executive Apartments Muscat (Review)

I've been to our neighbouring country of Oman once before, when we took a quick trip to Musandam. We got another opportunity to visit this mountainous country during the National Holiday weekend last month. This time to we headed to capital city Muscat, followed by a visit to Mussanah (more on that soon!). We could have driven, but with only one person doing the four-hour drive, it would have been exhausting. So, we took a one-hour flight instead.

For our two-day stay at Muscat, we put up at Millennium Exceutive Apartments Muscat. This is a fairly new property, and you can feel that when you enter the lobby. The lobby itself is small, but the central atrium is bright below a skylight during the day. The check-in process was fairly quick, and our luggage was quickly brought to the apartment.

Our apartment

We had arrived late in the evening, and it was lovely to see the spacious two-bedroom apartment. It looked so comforting that my only thought was to just get into bed and watch television! The living room is quite large, with a TV and attached dining area.

The dining area overlooks the kitchen and laundry room, fitted with an iron, ironing board, and washing machine.

The master bedroom had a king-size bed, and there were twin beds in the second bedroom. Each are equipped with TV screens, closets, and bathrooms. We settled in the master bedroom before heading for dinner.

Some of the little amenities were impressive. For one, all the switches are digital. Know when you get into a hotel room and fumble with 20 switches before putting on the right lights? That won't happen here, because everything is clearly labeled on the touch screen. You can also turn the DND sign on or off from each room. Another nice feature were the closets with automatic in-lighting. This is so convenient, I want to get them fitted at home!

We couldn't see the view that night, but the next morning we were greeted by the sight of the beautiful Hajjar mountains. Since there are tall windows in every room, including the kitchen, the view is almost panoramic. I tried to capture that in the photo below.

Another great feature of this apartment is the view from the balcony, which overlooks the pool. It's a welcome sight to see in the morning while you have your tea.

I also found the kitchen bright and cheery because of all the natural light. It was fully equipped with everything you could need, including a coffee machine, microwave oven, two-door refrigerator, and dishwasher.

The pool area

Whenever we stay in a hotel, I end up using the kids' pool because I have to keep an eye on Little Dude. This was even more important here as they don't have a lifeguard on duty, but the kids' pool was quite big, and temperature controlled. Perfect, as it was a chilly day!

The adults pool is bigger, and nearby is a fitness center with gym and sauna. We were given access to it, but day passes can be purchased for use of the facilities.

The food

We had all our meals at their all-day dining restaurant, Cafe M, which also caters for in-room dining. For breakfast, it would have been nice to have more variety in the warm food items. For the other meals, some dishes definitely stood out more than others.

The main cuisine offered at Cafe M is Middle Eastern, and some good Indian dishes. We loved the Keralan Mango Salad with raw mango, coconut, and peppers. The Chicken Biryani was good too, as was the Cold Mezze.

The service

The rooms are cleaned every day, so the experience is the same as staying in a regular hotel. The toiletries are replaced in the bathrooms as well, along with towels.

I must make special mention of the guest services at Millennium Executive Apartments Muscat. We accidentally left a mobile phone behind when we checked out. I reported the same over the phone, and received a call from the housekeeping department. They made a special effort to have the phone returned to us.

The location

You can't expect a better location in Muscat! If the mountain view isn't enough, you can walk into the Grand Muscat Mall right from the hotel itself. The Avenues Mall is also across the road, so everything you need for your convenience is minutes away. They also arrange taxis for sightseeing, although we decided on stay in and relax on this holiday.

Our experience

Our stay at Millennium Executive Apartments, Muscat was one of relaxed luxury. The apartment was impeccable, and the service was very satisfactory. It's also a great choice for families as the location is very convenient, and it's a 30-minute drive from the airport.
