Family Eats: Afternoon Tea at The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai

Think Afternoon Tea, and you think of a women-only affair with cakes, sandwiches, and hot beverages. Well, our perception changed after we were invited to a special Afternoon Tea at The Lobby Lounge restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai.

We went there as a family to see a special set-up for their Baby Shower Afternoon Tea, which couldn't have come at a better time since I am expecting! They offer blue, pink, and yellow themes for the special occasion, with balloons and a decorated table setting.

The Lobby Lounge is a well-lit restaurant, also with a terrace seating. The plesant harp music being played live really adds to the ambiance.

I chose to have the Traditional Tea with the Baby Shower menu, while my husband decided to try their new Gentlemen's Tea. I was happy to see that they had a Kids Treat tea option as well, which we chose for Little Dude.

My Traditional Tea tray had a variety of flavours, savory and sweet. The desserts included Strawberry and Orange Blossom Millefeuille, and Green Cardamom and Jivara Chocolate Verrine. Each element stood out with it's unique flavour combinations.

There was a palette cleanser in Coconut & Lime Soup. The Roast Beef sandwich was delicious, along with the Smoked Salmon rillettes éclairs, and the Cucumber and egg mayonnaise roll.

To add the special touch, was a baby cupcake, and a pacifier cupcake. It would be a great gender reveal idea!

The Traditional Tea also included Apricot and Pecan nut scones witn a variety of in-house jams such as Raspberry and Arabic Rose Jam.

I paired my treats with Anichai, from a selection of dozens of teas sourced from around the world. This mildly spiced tea was just suited to my taste. Our tea server Suranga had an in-depth understanding of the tea varieties listed in the menu.

In fact, all their servers are well-versed in every item on the Afternoon Tea, including ingredient and cooking process. That was quite impressive.

The Gentlemen's Tea is quite a treat too, and it's good to see that The Ritz-Carlton has this an option, so men can sit down and have a nice time as well. It is served either with Whisky or a tea selection.

Some of the items on this wooden tray included beef tartar with fried quail egg, mini Wagyu sliders with foie gras and duck rillettes and  grilled country bread. The chocolate cigar was a nice touch!

And then, of course, there was the Kids Treat. It certainly was a treat to look at! Little Dude enjoyed his selection of cupcakes, macarons, fruits, sandwiches, and desserts.

I would have liked to see more savory food items than the sweets, even though kids would prefer the latter.

The staff are very welcoming towards kids, but as there is a lot of china involved, it would be wise to think ahead. You could also take advantage of their Day Pass which gives you access to the kids club, pool, and beach facilities.

We had a lovely time tasting the creative items prepared by Executive Pastry Chef Tobias Taubner. While speaking to him, I figured that he likes to think outside the box and pair unconventional items together. I can vouch for that after tasting a pastry which had mushroom as one of its ingredients!

The Lobby Lounge also serves Arabian Tea, which includes a selection of traditional Middle Eastern items such as mezze, kibbeh tarts, falafel, umm ali, and katayef.

The Gentlemen's Tea costs AED 295, including a flight of Whisky, or AED 185 with a selection of loose-leaf teas. The Traditional Tea costs AED 190, including a selection of loose-leaf teas, or AED 330 for The Royal Treat, including a glass of champagne. The Baby Shower Tea costs AED 190.

We were invited to try the Afternoon Tea for the purpose of review. However, all views and opinions are sincerely my own.
