Family Eats: Secret Garden at Carluccio's, JBR

We're fans of the homely and delicious food at Carluccio's, so when they announced a 'Secret Garden' at their JBR restaurant, we just had to check it out. Good food in a garden setting. Why not?

The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. The Secret Garden area is at the back with shaded and non-shaded tables. The lawn itself is one part of the area where they've set up some nice lounge swings that adults and children can relax in. There's some place for the kids to run around in the lawn as well.

So, when we entered, Little Dude went straight to the garden. We only had some time to help him order from the kids' menu! He chose to have a Pepperoni Pizza with some mango juice.

It was with some coaxing that we had him come back to eat. The pizza was soft and warm, and the portion was about right for a child.

For our starters, we had our favourite Tomato And Pesto Bread, along with Arancini, and Green Salad. The bread did not disappoint, and the Arancini was delicious with its basil pesto and meat ragu stuffings with rice.

We then ordered our main course directly. I chose the Beef Gnocchi, a new dish. My husband ordered the Lamb Cutlets.

The Lamb Cutlets were succulent, and the sweet and sour eggplant stew that accompanied it had lovely flavours. It was served with some salsa verde, a green sauce made with fresh Italian herbs.

I loved my Beef Gnocchi, and couldn't stop admiring how good it looked! It tasted amazing too, with the beautifully flavoured pulled beef. I couldn't finish most of it, though. I hope Carluccio's considers serving half portions for some dishes.

While Little Dude loved running about in the garden, it would have been nice to have some activity corner for the kids, especially on a weekend.

For dessert, I tried their Chocolate-Cantucci Mousse, while my husband and son had ice cream scoops of chocolate chip, and chocolate.

If only I could describe the sensations of my dessert! If you like chocolate, you'll love this mousse. It had a stuffing of chocolaty cream and biscuits. The ice cream was good as always, rich and delightful.

For a relaxed lunch or dinner with your family, you could check out Carluccio's at The Walk, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai.

A meal for two and one child at the restaurant costs about AED 250. To make a reservation, call Carluccio's JBR at +971 4 552 0802, or book online on their website.

We were invited to dine at the restaurant for the purpose of review, but all views and opinions are sincerely my own.
