Family Eats: Meaty bites at Doner Deli

Despite all my years in Dubai, I had never tasted a doner. It might be because the shawarma is more commonly found here and one has to go looking to find the right doner. Not any longer, though, as Doner Deli is a restaurant that has begun to branch out in Dubai.

I was looking forward to tasting the doner, a roasted kebab that originated in Turkey but can be found around the world. We visited the Al Barari outlet of Doner Deli, and I mainly chose it because it has a playground right up front. The path to get here can be a little tricky since it's in a residential part of Al Barari, so use navigation!

The first thing I tasted was the Classic Durum. It's like a wrap with meat and yogurt dressing. The chicken was roasted to the point of crispiness. The red cabbage, lettuce and tomatoes gave it the required moisture, so it tasted delicious! I had chosen the Electric Green lime drink, but found it a little too sweet for my taste. The Lemon and Mint drink my husband had tasted a little better.

We next tried the Classic Pita with meal. I liked the special bread they used for this, which was textured with sesame seeds. The grilled meat was served in large flakes, but was soft. The dressing and filling was similar to the durum. Overall, a very satisfying sandwich which I had trouble finishing!

We had also ordered a Kids Meal with chicken durum, and an extra Mango Strawberry Fusion smoothie for Little Dude. Both were tasty and approved by him!

We also tasted their Falafel Durum, which is a great option if you're not keen on meat. Along with the meal, we had a smaller version of their Pomegranate Salad with a tangy vinaigrette dressing.

We got chatting with Chef John who told us that their halal meat is imported from Germany, and they take care to use the freshest of ingredients, from the bread to the vegetables.

Doner Deli is a good stop with the family for a light meal, and they also do home delivers over a wide area.

Apart from Al Barari, you can find them on Jumeirah Road in Umm Suqeim, Barsha 1, and Dubai Marina. For more information, check out their website

We were invited to review the restaurant, but all views and opinions are sincerely my own.
